What is Iridology?
A iridologia, também conhecida como iridodiagnóstico, é uma prática de medicina alternativa na qual padrões, cores e outras características da íris são examinados para obter informações sobre a saúde sistêmica de um paciente. Os praticantes combinam suas observações com gráficos de íris que dividem a íris em muitas zonas que se acredita corresponderem a partes específicas do corpo humano. Existem poucas ou nenhumas evidências científicas rigorosas que confirmem qualquer ligação entre aspectos da íris e o estado de saúde de um paciente e não existe nenhum mecanismo causal reconhecido para qualquer suposta correlação. Os iridologistas afirmam que não diagnosticam doenças específicas, mas sim que elas “destaque” aqueles sistemas e órgãos do corpo que são saudáveis e aqueles que são descritos como “hiperativo” ou “inflamado.” Diz -se que isso aponta para uma tendência no paciente em relação a certas doenças, refletir problemas médicos passados ou prever problemas de saúde que podem estar em desenvolvimento. Como a iridologia não é um método de tratamento, seus praticantes frequentemente estudaram outros ramos da medicina alternativa , como naturopatia, e usaram o estudo da íris como um primeiro passo diagnóstico. A iridologia é praticada mais amplamente na Europa (especialmente no Reino Unido e na Alemanha), onde existem aproximadamente 20.000 profissionais do que nos Estados Unidos, que tem apenas um décimo desse número.
