Ako pokračoval môj výskum iridológie, objavil sa problém vedy. Ako by som mohol niekomu inému dokázať, že dúhovka je anatomicky a fyziologicky vybavená na to, aby naznačovala to, čomu som sa naučil veriť, že to dokáže? Na začiatku môjho výcviku v iridológii som sa naučil, že nervové impulzy sa dostávajú do mozgu z tkanív v tele a sú smerované do dúhovky cez optický nerv. Keď nervová informácia dosiahla vlákna dúhovky, spôsobila reštrukturalizáciu v dúhovke, aby odrážala stav tkanív tela. Ako moje školenie pokračovalo, moji učitelia narazili na smutný fakt, že dúhovka a zrakový nerv majú na seba malý vplyv. Teória sa potom zmenila na tvrdenie, že informácie sa dostali do dúhovky prostredníctvom okulomotorického nervu.
