Iridology, also known as iridodiagnosis, is an alternative medicine practice in which patterns, colors, and other characteristics of the iris are examined for information about a patient’s systemic health. Practitioners match their observations to iris charts which divide the iris into many zones believed to correspond to specific parts of the human body. Little, if any, rigorous scientific evidence exists confirming any such link between aspects of the iris and a patient’s state of health and there is no recognized causative mechanism for any purported correlation.Iridologists claim that they do not diagnose specific diseases, but rather that they “highlight” those systems and organs in the body that are healthy and those which are described as “overactive” alebo “inflamed.” These are said to point to a tendency in the patient towards certain illnesses, to reflect past medical problems, or to predict health problems which may be developing.Since iridology is not a method of treatment, its practitioners have often studied other branches of alternative medicine, such as naturopathy, and used the study of the iris as a diagnostic first step. Iridology is practiced more widely in Europe (especially in the UK and Germany), where there are approximately 20,000 practitioners, than in the United States, which has only a tenth of that number.

A more formal description as stated by World renowned American Iridologist, Ellen Tart-Jensen is, “Iridology is the study of the color, pigmentations, and structure of the iris or colored portion of the eye as they relate genetically through reflex response to the strengths and deficiencies of the body.
In addition, many iridologists observe the border of the pupil as well as the vascular markings in the sclera to help them better understand more about the overall health of the person.
Each iris is completely unique. It provides the genetic blueprint to a person’s body. People can often acquire inherited physical weaknesses that may have affected previous family members. These may be detected through iridology. Through iris analysis, the iridologist may be able to determine a person’s overall state of health. Iridology can reveal many things, perhaps most importantly, the possibility of inflammation and irritation in the various bodily parts. In this sense, iridology is a useful analytical tool.
Most modern Iridologist, use an iridology camera to take photographs of their clients, left and right iris. Once they have obtained quality high resolution still images of the iris, they then use an iridology map or iridology chart to begin their iridology analysis. The iridologist may also use iridology software to assist in the iridology analysis.

Explain the science of it. How is the eye literally the window to the soul?-Iridology is the science of the iris, or colored portion, of the eye. The iris contains bundles of thousands of nerve fibers and is a reflection of the entire body.The iris is connected to every organ and tissue of the body by way of the brain and central nervous system through the optic nerve. The optic nerve connects to the central nervous system (CNS) which is the main communication link to everything that goes on in the body.Think of your brain as your body’s ‘hard drive;’ it remembers everything that ever happened to your body. Your iris is then like the ‘file folder.’ So ‘reading’ the iris to find out what is going on in the body is similar to how one reads a computer screen to access what’s in a computer.

Týmto spôsobom zdedený a/alebo získaný zdravotný stav tela vysiela nervové reflexy do vlákien v dúhovke, čo spôsobuje, že skupiny vlákien sa menia prostredníctvom vzorov línií, charakteristík, tvarov, štruktúr, foriem a farieb v dúhovke a to je to, čo študuje iridológ.
