What is iridology examination?
Although the study of the eye can be traced back to ancient civilizations, clinical iridology was introduced in the late nineteenth century by Ignatz von Peczely, a Hungarian doctor. Von Peczely designed his first iris chart after he noticed a correlation between streaks or markers in a patient’s iris and corresponding physical ailments. Since the creation of his iris chart, modern day iridologists use this tool to determine changes in the iris that give clues to physical changes within the body, including inflammation, toxicity, congested lymph nodes and hardening of the arteries. Although iridology cannot reveal specific diseases or ailments, it can alert the patient of potential health issues. An iridology exam is a painless, non-invasive procedure that includes a health questionnaire on your medical history and lifestyle, and an examination of the iris using an instrument called the iridiscope (a magnifying glass with a light). A special camera called an iridocamera may also be used to take a picture of the iris, which is then downloaded into a computer for analyzing.
Controversy surrounding iridology has mounted due to the misconception that the alternative therapy can accurately diagnose chronic and potentially fatal diseases. This viral misconception has been propagated by iridologists misusing their practice of the alternative technique.
“Iridology is the study of the iris, or the colored part of the eye. Iridology is not a diagnostic tool; rather it is a screening tool that gives us a glimpse into the genetic road map one is born with,” explains Trixie Clark, RN, ND, IIPA certified comprehensive iridologist (CCI) and vice president of the International Iridology Practitioners Association. “We inherit tendencies from our parents and grandparents that can affect our health. With iridology, we can inform someone of these tendencies based on the eye color and various markings that are seen. Again, we cannot diagnose diseases, like cancer or anemia, from the iris.”

The Study of the Eyes: What is Iridology?
Iridology also commonly referred to as Iridology analysis, also mistakenly referred to as, Iris diagnosis, or Iridology diagnosis, is the study of the iris of the human eye.
A more formal description as stated by World renowned American Iridologist, Ellen Tart-Jensen is, “Iridology is the study of the color, pigmentations, and structure of the iris or colored portion of the eye as they relate genetically through reflex response to the strengths and deficiencies of the body.
In addition, many iridologists observe the border of the pupil as well as the vascular markings in the sclera to help them better understand more about the overall health of the person.
Each iris is completely unique. It provides the genetic blueprint to a person’s body. People can often acquire inherited physical weaknesses that may have affected previous family members. These may be detected through iridology. Through iris analysis, the iridologist may be able to determine a person’s overall state of health. Iridology can reveal many things, perhaps most importantly, the possibility of inflammation and irritation in the various bodily parts. In this sense, iridology is a useful analytical tool.
Most modern Iridologist, use an iridology camera to take photographs of their clients, left and right iris. Once they have obtained quality high resolution still images of the iris, they then use an iridology map or iridology chart to begin their iridology analysis. The iridologist may also use iridology software to assist in the iridology analysis.
Iridology complements all the health sciences as it provides information, not only about what may be ailing you, but also about the root cause of the disorder.
Iridology is a safe, non-invasive analytical tool, which can be integrated with both orthodox and complementary medicine.
Iridology helps people learn about their genetic strengths and weaknesses and become more aware of what they can do to help themselves.
Iridologist, believe that iridology is one of the best assessment tools available to discover which areas of the body are genetically strong and which are deficient. Iridology can analyze the overall health according to specific iris colors and markings.

What is iridology Benefits?
Iridologists claim that by studying the patterns of a person’s iris, they can provide helpful and accurate health and wellness information. Iridology is a holistic endeavor in that it addresses the person’s whole being in the reading. The range of information gleaned encompasses physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual aspects of the person’s health picture. In addition to assessing the person’s general level of health, readings can reveal other data, including energy quotients; internal areas of irritation, degeneration, injury, or inflammation; nutritional, and chemical imbalances; accumulation of toxins; life transitions; and subconscious tensions. Iridologists maintain that the eyes reveal information about the person’s physical and emotional constitution, such as inherited weaknesses and risks to which the person may be prone. Strengths may also be revealed, including inherited emotional tendencies from which the person derives particular talents. Cleansing and healing can be verified by changes in the iris. By looking for certain signs such as healing lines, iridologists obtain information about previous health problems and injuries and discover what may have gone wrong in the person’s past.
An iridology reading reflects the causes of problems, not symptoms. It may, iridologists claim, reveal that organs or systems are overstressed or predisposed to disease before clinical symptoms even develop. By predicting future problems, iridology can be used as a preventive tool. People can use the information from iridology readings to improve their health and make better behavioral choices in the future, thereby heading off problems before they occur.
In North America, iridology is generally considered to be an assessment tool to be used in cooperation with other health specialties. Iridology is not a diagnostic tool (although it is more likely to be considered so by European iridologists) and should not be used to diagnose or name specific diseases. Not only would diagnosis represent an improper application of iridology according to many iridologists, as noted by the International Iridology Research Association (IIRA), it could also be construed in many countries as practicing medicine without a license.
